Scholarships Program


The Foundation for the Horse is dedicated to preserving and improving the health and well-being of equines by honoring exceptional veterinary students dedicated to equine practice. The Foundation, along with multiple donors and partners in the industry, is poised to award nearly $550,000 in scholarships to individuals committed to equine practice.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to equine veterinary medicine and who are student members of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). Applicants must also have the support of AAEP members and their clinical instructors.
Available Scholarships
The scholarships offered this year range from $5,000 to $50,000 for third-year students and $75,000 for fourth-year students.
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled and in good standing at an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary medicine in the United States, Canada, or West Indies
- On track to graduate with your DVM (or equivalent) in 2026 or 2027
- National AAEP Student Member paid through 2026 and active within your school’s chapter. To renew your membership and obtain your member ID, contact Megan Gray, member concierge, at (859) 705-0421 or mgray@aaep.org
How to Apply
The Foundation uses Cadmium to collect and review a single online application for all eligible scholarships based on your graduation year. Please note that the following components are required to apply.
- Applicant Information
- Current Transcript (official transcript not required, but it must include all courses to date)
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae
- List of Externships
- Essays – Please reference the 2025 Scholarship Essay Prompts.
- References – Support from your clinical instructors and AAEP-member private practitioners. Please provide the Instructions for References when requesting their support. Note: the Coyote Rock Ranch scholarship also requires a personal reference.
